Pumping Out Warriors

*Update*

This is as done as they will get. 

About two weeks ago, I decided to buy a box of dwarf warriors. Why?  

Well, there are two reasons I guess. The first, I can use more warriors instead of using so many proxies.  The second, the store I buy GW stuff from only had a single box of dwarf warriors in stock. And they haven't had new stock in the last three weeks. 

One of the difficult (obviously) things about living in South Korea and being a wargaming is getting models. It really isn't too big a deal for most games, but for GW, we are limited. I either have to rely on the single store in Seoul, order from that store or maybe use the GW online site, but I am not sure how easy that is with their stupid regulations.

Anyways, I didn't have too much motivation to paint these guys, but I did manage to get them to about 90% in about 4 hours this morning. 

They turned out...standard. The dwarf warriors are just so boring to paint. The part I especially hate about them is the cloth. I haven't been able to make it work. This time, I used a sky blue color (oops) that didn't go on as well as I had hoped. 

I also tried messing around with the bases, but I don't like the result. It was too rushed, but oh well. 

I am happy that they are basically done. I will spend a few hours tonight before bed touching up each model and basing them with flock. I will likely end up redoing the sky blue as well. 

The only cool thing that came out of this was the model on the far right. 

I actually had a set of arms left over from Grimm (shooty dwarf guy). I decided to slap them on this model and he ended up looking badass. I will certainly spend more time with him later. 

I think if I make any more dwarf purchases, it will just be with elite units. I may end up getting a few copters and a few more boxes of Ironbreakers. 

Grimm Burloksson

This is my latest model. He will be a fun addition to my Dwarf gun line! 

The initial model I did had a pure white pipe. 

But a friend recommended some changes. After doing a few touch ups, I had completely fucked up the pipe. I ended up scraping off the paint that I could and just went with silver. Fuck it. 

He looks more dwarfish this way, but part of me still wishes he had that crisp white pipe. 

Dwarf Runelord

I woke up early again today and tackled another dwarf model. 

Last night I cut and cleaned up the Runelord from the Dwarf battleline. 

I decided to not glue any of these pieces together before painting. 

A friend of my recommended doing a purple cloak, which turned out very well. 

I spent about 2.5-3 hours total on this model. I think it might be one of the best models I have ever painted. 

I recently ordered a few models from Avatar of War and was feeling a little worried that I wouldn't be able to paint them very well. But after painting this model, I feel confident that I will do a good job on them when they arrive. 

Dwarfs (Warriors and Thunderers)

I received a Dwarf battleline last week. It contains 59 models. Battle forces and big boxes of models have a tendency to discourage me from painting. This weekend, however, I decided to tackle the box. 

I started by assembling the 20 warriors. 

Tons and tons of bits. I also realized that if I were to put the arms on, that it would be nearly impossible to paint their faces. This added a bit more time to the job. 

I then decided to put together 20 thunderers as well. The intention was to get them primed all at once. 

Then the priming started. 

Messy stuff. 

But it didn't take too long with the airbrush. 

I then applied Leadbelcher and Dwarf Bronze to a few pieces. 

The next step was a brown wash. 

This was the end of night one. 

The next day I started with a silver dry brushing. 

This is where I had intended to paint them 5 or 10 at a time. 

But once I got started on their beards, I just couldn't help but continuing. 

After I painted on the beards and skin, I decided to glue them all up. 

The next step was getting to the fabric and details. 

After a bit more work on Sunday and Monday morning, this was the final result. 

It was a long long long weekend of painting, but I am pretty happy with the results. 

These models are definitely not as clean or detailed as some of my other dwarfs, but the fact that I got 40 done in one weekend makes me very happy. These are just core units, so I don't think I have to invest too much effort into them. 

My next project will be finishing off the battleline. 

Longbeards (first 10)

I continued to work on my dwarfs this week. I am quite determined to get up to about 1,500 points with them as many new players at the shop in Seoul have recently picked up WHF. It will be nice to learn with them. 

Since I am in Korea, it can be difficult to get miniatures. It is even more difficult to get Gamesworkshop miniatures because of their online retailer policies. 

I said that I wanted to be quite selective about which units I buy this time. However, that may not be possible. My choices are limited. However, I made another decision recently. I decided to use models as proxies. I never liked doing that in the past. Ideally, I would love to have a uniform platoon. Dwarfs, however, look so similar. Longbeards, warriors and ironbreakers are all pretty much the same. 

So, I decided to just make sure my front rank or two are the models I intend to use and the models behind them should just look somewhat similar. 

So even though I am not planning in using Longbeards, here are 10 Longbeards. 

They will most likely fill in spots behind warriors and ironbreakers. Or I may choose to use them in the future and have warriors fill in behind. Either way, these 10 are done and they will find some place in my army. 

I think they turned out well. They are very shiny and metallic. I have really been enjoying the use of metallics when painting. 

Ironbreakers Pt. 3

I finished up my last 5 ironbreakers last night. Overall, they turned out well. I really messed up on the first banner and ended up doing it all over again. 

I am still not fully pleased with the banner. Eventually I will add some runes to it once I figure out which work best for my army. I was also disappointed with my lack of cleaning when it came to the face of the hammers. I should have cleaned them much better. 

Ironbreakers Pt. 2

Here is a very quick picture of 5 of my Ironbreakers. I haven't finished the bases yet since I am not sure how I will do them. They will likely be simply bases, possibly even just black. 

Warhammer Dwarfs: Ironbreaker

So this weekend I took a break from Malifaux. A friend of mine is leaving Korea very soon and last weekend was his last weekend. So we decided to get together and play a few games of Infinity against him. We each took a round against him and overall, it turned out to be a pretty good day. 

While I was at the shop, I started lingering. This brought me to the Warhammer Fantasy section. I had started putting together an Orcs and Goblins army some time ago, but I never really stuck with it. The shop I go to rarely stocks the orcs I need and I never really wanted them badly enough to order them. 

But I have been thinking about starting a different faction for a long time. Wood Elves certainly appealed to me, but after hearing about the way the current game is now, I don't think they would be much fun. I also thought High Elves looked kind of neat. I have always liked the idea of highly organized and disciplined ranks of warriors. I just couldn't get over the fact that they were elves, though. Sissies. 

I mules over a few other factions and sadly the only ones that seemed neat to me were either useless or played heavily by friends. I don't like using armies others play. 

But then I noticed the new dwarfs. I had no idea they were coming out. I don't stay current on GW news. About two years ago, I had started a dwarf army in Canada. I thought they looked awesome and fit my play style. Nothing materialized from that investment and I just simply painted them and stored them away. 

Now, however, I am playing games much more than I did in Canada and the new dwarfs seem to scream at me. BUY ME!

So I did. I ended up walking away with a box of the new Ironbreakers. These models just look fantastic to me. 

I love painting metallics, which is another huge plus to me.

I am super happy with how he turned out. I also had a lot of fun painting him up. I will likely finish up another 4 tonight and get to work on the next 5 later this week.
